Abstract
Street foods are defined as, "Ready to eat foods and/or beverages sold by vendors and hawkers especially in the streets and other similar public places". Economic and industrial developments followed by urbanisation, employments far away from home, formation of nuclear families, occupations of women outside home and the like have resulted in the rapid proliferation of street foods as these act as a convenient source of food. Street foods are an important source of economical and nutritious food particularly for the urban poor.
